There is lots of room for personalization within a Campaign! You can take advantage of merge fields to import elements of personalization from your CSV or Salesforce list into the body of your emails, add a Personalization column to the recipient table, type extra notes for individual recipients in the "Preview & Personalize" section, write an individualized note for certain recipients in the "Manage Recipients" area, or insert finishing touches before sending out a Manual Email touch.
Merge Fields
Mapping merge fields from your CSV or Salesforce list to the compose area allows you to pull in personalization from your list of recipients. As long as the merge fields in the compose area match exactly with the column headers in the recipient table, the information will pull in correctly. Use the "Merge Field" button at the bottom of the compose area to help you enter the merge field from the table with the correct formula or use a Template with corresponding fields. Please note, any of the fields you use to create your list in Salesforce, will come over as column headers in the table when you import a Contact/Lead list from Salesforce.
Add Personalization Column to Recipient Table
If you've imported a Contact/Lead list from Salesforce, there's not a whole lot of room for real elements of extra personalization outside of things you're tracking in SFDC like name, company, etc. You might consider adding an extra column to the table after you've imported your recipient list and calling it something like "Personalization," "Alma Mater," or "industry comment" depending upon what content you'd like to import. After you've added your recipient list, click the "Add Column" button underneath the table, label the new column that appears, fill in the related data for each recipient in the list, and then don't forget to use the "Insert Merge Field" button at the bottom of the compose area to help you enter the new merge field from the table with the correct formula in the compose area.
Preview & Personalize
As the name would suggest, in the "Preview & Personalize" area, you can personalize further for individual recipients. Find the recipient you'd like to personalize for in the list of recipients, click on their email, click into their little compose area, write your note, and then hit the "Apply Personalization" button at the bottom of the compose area to save the note for that recipient.
NOTE: When hitting 'SAVE AND EXIT', you are only saving the contact from the COMPOSE windows (the content template for the touch).
When adding an additional personalization (or when adding users to a campaign in general) if you click 'SAVE AND EXIT', the added recipients will NOT be saved. Therefore, any additional personalization created for those contacts will NOT save.
Manage Recipients
After you've added recipients to a Campaign and started it, you still have time to add personalization. Maybe you are alerted on LinkedIn that someone has received a promotion after you've already begun a Campaign. Find the Campaign in question, click on the More Actions kebab menu, and select "Manage Recipients."
Then, click on the row of the recipient you would like to add some custom content to, expand the touch you want to add your note to and select the "Personalize Touch" button. Write your note and click "Save Personalization." Please be advised, if your touch is scheduled to be sent immediately, you will not be able to add any custom content here because the email is already queued up to be sent and you will receive a message alerting you of such.
Manual Email Touch
If you're using a Manual Email Touch in a Campaign, before you send the email, you still have the opportunity to add some extra notes of personalization before you hit the send button on the email.
